I’ve always liked the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. During the last year of high school, we had a Disney day in which all of us had to dress up as a Disney character, and Ches was the one I chose. I was still new to cosplay, and quickly pulled something together with white fur and fabric paints.
Three years later, I made this costume again (this time taking quite a lot more time than a week), and while the design changed significantly, some key features, such as the booty shorts and the fur leg warmers remained. In the end, I actually reused the original lilac tights I had used for the school event.
This cosplay went through a lot of redesigns. The tail was originally much shorter, and the pale purple parts were intended to be striped leggings and a striped shirt. Even though everything was ready, the fur I ordered online turned out to be a different shade, and I couldn’t use the parts I had made before.
I still love this costume to death though. It’s really comfortable (even though the shorts are a little bit too small) and really soft. Everyone is always impressed when they first see my huge tail, which is usually tucked behind my bag because it drags on the ground when I leave it hanging. It was amazing to cosplay with our entire Alice in wonderland group as well at FACTS 2015!
