I loved Mako from the moment I started watching Kill la Kill, even though her personality is probably more or less the opposite of mine (or maybe because of this?). The only thing holding me back from cosplaying her was that her outfit was just so simple — that was, until episode 7, where she gets a two star uniform. My next cosplay was immediately decided. Even though there are some things I would have done differently now, I still love the details in this piece, from the handmade geta shoes, to the painted life fibres in the lining and the little bow on her uniform that took my grandmother and me half a day to pattern to make it look just like the reference. Unfortunately, the coat and the geta are very hard to move in, and I can only wear them for a few hours before getting too tired. Luckily, the costume can be worn without them, and I still cosplay no-star Mako regularly, especially for those hot summer cons.
